Latvian companies participated in the international exhibition and conference "TransKazahstan / TransLogistica 2019" with a joint VIA LATVIA stand, which took place from 18 to 20 September in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The exhibition in Almaty takes place for the 23rd time, that demonstrates the importance of this event for transport and logistics, both in the Central Asian region and across the Eurasian continent. This year the exhibition was attended by representatives of 13 companies: Latvian Railway, LDz Logistics, LDz Cargo, Freeport of Riga, Ventspils Free Port, Liepaja SEZ, Riga Universal Terminal, Riga Container Terminal, A&A Logistic, SONORA, Noord Natie Vantspils terminalis ”,« Sigis », Riga Airport as well as Baltic Transit and Logistics Association.

The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport Uldis Reimanis and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Kazakhstan Yuri Pogrebnik.

In his speech, Uldis Reimanis emphasized that the Latvian transport and logistics industry has been taking part in the exhibition for the 21st time, and thus has grown and developed hand in hand with the entire family of Eurasian transport professionals

At the conference, Uldis Reimanis delivered a speech at a special session on national policies on the interconnection of Eurasian transport systems. In his speech, Mr Reimanis highlighted the growing trade turnover and the great potential for cooperation in freight transport on land corridors between China and Europe.     

Mister Reimanis pointed out that Latvia sees Kazakhstan as its strategic partner in dialogue with China in the framework of developing cargo shipment on New Silk Road. Together with partners from Kazakhstan, Latvian transport and logistics sector can offer beneficial multimodal transport services from China through Kazakhstan to Europe using ports of Riga, Ventspils and Liepaja. It is also important to mention Riga International Airport which   plays a big part in Eurasian freight traffic services and in cooperation with Latvian Post successfully develops e-commerce shipments from China to Europe.

On September 18th a Latvian-Kazakh Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation was organized in Almaty. Both sides acknowledged that prospects for cooperation include transit and logistics services, road, rail and air transport freight.

Additionally, on September 19th, Uldis Reimanis participated in magazines «Транс-Logistics Казахстан» expert discussions about role of media and communications in sphere of transport. Mister Reimanis indicated that it is important to communicate values to society which can be offered by modern, forward-looking and interconnected transport sector; therefore, Latvia has chosen to communicate these values with brand of VIA LATVIA.
