From July 10 to 12, a German delegation visited  Riga to participate in the Latvia-Germany Port Days, which aim to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of logistics and transport.

During the Latvian-German Port Days, the German delegation met with the Minister of Transport and the Mayor of Riga, visited transport logistics companies, listened to their business experience and discussed future cooperation opportunities.

"Closer cooperation with German ports is an important step in the reorientation of Latvia's transport and logistics sector. Our ports have a history of cooperation that spans several centuries and is a solid basis for further development. I am pleased that there is mutual interest in expanding cooperation and that, following the Port Days in Hamburg in May, the business community is continuing the dialogue by meeting in Riga," said Transport Minister Kaspars Briškens.

The Latvian-German Port Days are an excellent opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in logistics and transport, promote investment and create new business opportunities. The Port Days tradition started in Liepaja in 2018.  The previous Port Days took place on 26-28 April 2023 in the German cities of Lübeck and Hamburg, during which a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed, thus renewing the agreement signed in 2019 between the major Latvian ports of Riga, Ventspils and Liepaja and the German ports of Hamburg and Lübeck. The Latvian-German Memorandum of Understanding on Transport and Logistics Cooperation, signed in 2023, provides opportunities to strengthen and expand cooperation between the two countries in the field of ports and logistics.

On 11 July, a business forum was held with the participation of representatives of the German transport industry, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Transport, Riga Freeport, Ventspils Freeport, Liepaja SEZ, JSC "Latvijas dzelzceļš" (Latvian Railway) and other Latvian transport and logistics companies. The Business Forum was launched by the Minister of Transport K.Briškens.

Latvia has established successful cooperation with Germany in the field of transport and logistics. Germany is one of Latvia's most active partners in maritime freight transport. All major Latvian ports - Riga, Ventspils and Liepaja - have cargo connections with various German ports. All three major Latvian ports have successful German-owned manufacturing companies.
