Ventspils has long been known as a strategic export hub for Russian and CIS countries for chemicals, potassium salt, coal, grain, general cargo, ro-ro and other cargo. Today Ventspils is a multi-modal Latvian port, an attractive port in terms of any cargo and port charges in the Baltics. The technical characteristics of the non-freezing port allow Ventspils to handle the largest ships entering the Baltic Sea throughout the year.
Amount of cargoes handled at the Freeport of Ventspils in 2023 was 10.4 million tons of freight.
