Aviation is one of the most growing area in the transport sector of Latvia. During the past seven years the amount of passengers used JSC "International Airport "Riga"" has increased almost four times and it has become a evident leader among the Baltic airports, as well as one of the fastest developing airports in the European Union.

Besides Riga airport in Latvia there are two smaller airports: in Liepaja and Ventspils.

In 2016 the market share of the International Airport "Riga" in the Baltic countries was 45%, the number of served passengers has exceeded 5.6 million passengers per year. In turn, the cargo turnover was 39% of the Baltic airport cargo turnover, or almost 33 thousand tons.

At present from Riga airport is offering flights to 79 destinations which are regularly provided by 17 airlines.

All types and sizes of cargo - food, general cargo, phyto-goods, veterinary goods, dangerous goods, abnormal loads, et cetera - are served in the airport "Riga". The airport offers more than 5,000 m2 of capacious storage space and more than 10 000 m2 of storage space outdoors. Airport services are provided by experienced and professional freight operators.

The largest transport operators in Riga airport is airline JSC "Air Baltic Corporation" (airBaltic). AirBaltic is the Latvian national airline offering flights from Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn to more than 50 destinations in Europe and worldwide. Every day AirBaltic are carrying out around fifty direct flights from Riga connecting it with the European and the largest airports in the world. The airline is working a lot on of the flow of transit passengers - connecting Europe and the former Soviet bloc countries. In 2015, AirBaltic via Riga carried 1110947 transit passengers or 42% of the total number of passengers.
