The geographical location of the Port of Riga in the center of the Baltic States and on the conjunction of main transit corridors from East to West and from North to South makes it possible to offer the freight forwarders the quickest, safest and cheapest services. The Port of Riga offers both efficient sea and land connections. Regular container lines connect the Port of Riga with the major European ports and regular container trains bring cargo quickly and efficiently further to Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and China.

The aim of the Freeport of Riga is to develop as the leading port in the Baltic States and the key element for economic wellbeing of Latvia.

The volume of cargo handling in 2016 reached 37.07 million tons which is the largest amount ever handled in the history of the port.

Up to 77% of total cargo turnover in the Freeport of Riga are transit cargo forwarded to or received from the CIS.

The cargo handling capacity of the Riga Freeport terminals is 58.2 million tons per year.

The Freeport of Riga is located on both sides of the river Daugava in the length of 15 kilometers.

In the Freeport of Riga successfully operate 34 stevedore companies and 27 shipping agents.

The structure of cargo handled at the Freeport of Riga constitute containers, various metals, timber, coal, mineral fertilizers, chemical cargoes and oil products.
